Aimee Eckert

Aimee Eckert has a BSc in Molecular & Cellular Biology, a MRes in Cancer Biology and is currently a PhD student at the University of Sussex, researching how cancer cells undergo cell division. In addition to her research, she is the co-founder of PubhD Brighton, gives talks & demos in secondary schools in Sussex & Kent through STEMNET & has been a guest speaker at Cancer Research UK fundraising events such as Relay For Life & Pink Gift Fair. You can watch her do some stand up at Bright Club Southampton here and at Bright Club Dublin here.

As part of the Talent Factory, Aimee has developed a new science performance variety show which she also hosts as her alter ego: Dr Jiggs Bowson
Dr Jiggs Bowson is the most glamorous scientist in Britain [citation needed] and an international celebrity because of that one time she performed in Ireland. She resides somewhere between the worlds of scientific research, vintage glamour and end-of-the-pier naughtiness, a.k.a Brighton. At her unique and extravagant cabaret variety shows, Dr Jiggs Bowson’s Charming Science Friends, you can expect performance arts, comedy and science to be expertly blended together into a delicious cocktail. You can expect anything from (and not limited to) stand-up or sketch comedy, music, magic or science demos, drag and burlesque. This new take on the cabaret variety show has been very successful, with previously sold out performances in London and Brighton, the Cheltenham Science Festival, British Science Festival and Green Man Music Festival.
Inclusivity is the primary agenda for Dr Jiggs Bowson. She is very proud to have booked the very first Drag Artist to ever perform at Cheltenham Science Festival in 2017 – the scintillating Crystal Lubrikunt and performed for the Wellcome LGBTQ+ society for London Pride, 2017. Jiggs is committed to creating safe and welcoming science entertainment event for people identifying as LGBTQ+. Plus with queer venues under constant threat from closure, it is as important as ever to create LGBTQ+ inclusive spaces and get talented folks bookings and money (because people die of exposure).
