I am a PhD student at the University of Sussex, researching how cancer cells undergo cell division. When I’m not in the lab, I co-organise PubhD Brighton, am on the committee for the new Brighton branch of the British Science Association, give talks & demos in secondary schools in Sussex & Kent through STEMNET & enthusiastically leap at any opportunity my university department gives me to talk about science with the public.
Living in the wonderfully eccentric & welcoming city of Brighton has allowed me to explore new possibilities for science communication events. I am especially inspired by the Drag Kings & Queens that perform here. This led to the creation of my on-stage alter ego, Dr. Jiggs Bowson. With the help of Steve Cross, Brighton’s first science cabaret starring local & national talent, was born.
To relax after all this excitement I enjoy Cuban Salsa dance, drawing and baking.
