Aimee Eckert

I am a PhD student at the University of Sussex, researching how cancer cells undergo cell division. When I’m not in the lab, I co-organise PubhD Brighton, give talks & demos in secondary schools in Sussex & Kent through STEMNET & enthusiastically leap at any opportunity my university department gives me to talk about science with the public.
Living in the wonderfully eccentric & welcoming city of Brighton has allowed me to explore new possibilities for science communication events. I am especially inspired by the Drag Kings & Queens that perform here. This led to the creation of my on-stage alter ego, Dr. Jiggs Bowson. With the help of Steve Cross, Brighton’s first science cabaret starring local & national talent, was born. This event, Dr Jiggs Bowson’s Charming Science Cabaret has performed sell-out shows in Brighton and Cheltenham Science Festival. See the bottom of this page for upcoming shows 🙂
To relax after all this excitement I enjoy Cuban Salsa dance, drawing and baking.

You can see me make jokes about cancer cells here:

Upcoming gigs:

19th & 20th August – Dr Jiggs Bowson’s Charming Science Friends, Omni Tent, Green Man Festival

8th September – Dr Jiggs Bowson’s Charming Science Friends, Horatio’s Bar, Brighton Pier, British Science Festival
